The problem
Regulation
Water used in food manufacturing and agriculture creates polluted waste streams which are required by regulation to be cleaned.
Anaerobic digester solutions
- While anaerobic digesters can produce energy, they do so in a very environmentally unfriendly manner.
- Methanogenesis - Produces methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Methane has 21 times the global warming potential of CO2
- A 4.2 million gallon capacity digester can generate 78 tons of CO2 equivalent per day
Other current solutions
- High capital costs
- High operating costs (energy, tipping fees)
- Large spatial footprint
- Large carbon footprint
